𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗥𝗔𝗚𝗢𝗡’𝗦 𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛 — 𝗥𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝗺
Cyclone Tam has been raging, unleashing her full force across Northland today.
From the protection of the Kauri Dragon at Ditiantai, we are shielded from her fiercest. We watch the dark clouds race by obscuring the midday sun, white foam build along Ocean Beach whipping the surf into a wild, relentless dance, as the Easterly gales, gusting over 150 km/h, whip the waves into a wild froth.
Right now, I’m in town for an appointment — Thunder rumbles overhead like the drums of old, and the rain, driven near horizontal, lashes against the windows. Nature’s untamed spirit is unleashed today.
Across Northland, 25,000 homes and businesses are without power, cell towers are down in pockets, and the roads are littered with windfall. A yacht was lost off the coast overnight, and Auckland’s Harbour Bridge has seen lane closures as gusts barrel through.
A timely reminder: if you’re safe, stay put. If you must be out, stay sharp. The Dragon holds strong, but Tam still tests the unprepared.
The Dragon watches, the winds howl, and the earth holds steady.
