FROM LOSS TO LEGACY: Lost Talismans and New Beginnings

Losing my father’s Guru Rinpoche talisman last June was a heart-wrenching moment, marking a pivotal shift in my life’s trajectory. It nudged me to fulfilling a vow made long ago – to carry forward my father’s legacy of spreading Traditional Feng Shui globally. That golden medallion, imbued with sacred blessings, served as both shield and compass on my spiritual journey. Yet, as I embraced this new chapter, I yearned for a replacement that honoured the spiritual significance of my old talisman but also weaved in my newfound connection to my adopted home, New Zealand.

So, on my birthday this year, I felt compelled to find myself a Māori greenstone pounamu pendant. Drawn to its earthy allure, born from millennia of geological evolution, I sought a piece that bridged the gap between my spiritual heritage and my new-found roots in New Zealand. It had to speak to me, resonate with my soul, and embody the profound significance of this juncture in my life.

After my unsuccessful initial attempts, I decided the right piece will find me. On my four hour transit in Auckland airport fate led me to Mountain Jade, an enchanting haven of exquisite array of pounamu! Coincidentally four years ago, I had stumbled upon this website in my search for the meaning of koru. Then this time in our failed search, Mountain Jade came to mind. Sure enough there I was and amidst their treasure trove, one piece stood out – a koru tree fern frond intricately carved from ‘flower jade’. This cherished gemstone, exclusive to New Zealand’s western South Island, boasted natural inclusions that lent each piece its unique allure. The koru, symbolizing renewal and growth, struck a chord with my journey of transformation, intertwining my past with my present, my spiritual heritage with my newfound home.

As I put on this precious pendant, I felt a profound sense of connection – to my father’s guiding spirit, to the rich cultural tapestry of Māori tradition, and to the vibrant landscape of New Zealand that now holds my heart. In this exquisite piece of ‘flower jade’, I found not just a replacement for my lost talisman, but a tangible embodiment of my evolving journey, a testament to resilience, renewal, and the enduring power of spiritual connection.
