THE YIN AND YANG OF ‘OUR BEACH’

From our home, we are blessed with a view of the Pacific Ocean and the vast expanse of a 6-kilometer beach. Just less than 5 min drive away, it is a magnificent place to wander. Rarely do we encounter more than a handful of souls, and often, we find ourselves alone. Hence, with a touch of impish pride, I call it ‘Our Beach.’

Here, you can hear the heartbeat of Mother Earth and feel the wind as her breath. Today, the sea was as serene as a millpond, with waves whispering gently as they caressed the shore.

Each visit reveals a new aspect of this ever-changing landscape. Sometimes, the rocks are exposed, standing like sentinels against the tide, while at other times, they lie buried beneath a blanket of sand. Occasionally, the beach stretches out flat and smooth for nearly a kilometer, while on other days, it slopes abruptly, a testament to nature’s formidable power.

Once, during a fierce storm, I sought to embrace the raw intensity of the elements and suggested to Kim that we venture out. Kim humored me; I think he secretly enjoys my daring escapades. The ocean surged with towering, five-meter waves, and the winds howled with unrestrained fury. As we walked along the beach, we leaned heavily into the gales, sand whipping against our faces. It was exhilarating!

But today, she is in a contemplative mood, the sea’s surface reflecting a quiet, introspective tranquility.

THE YIN AND YANG OF NATURE’S GRACE

From our home, just nearby,
The Pacific Ocean does lie.
A mere five minutes to this wondrous shore,
Where rarely do we meet but a handful, no more.
‘Our Beach,’ I name with pride and jest,
Here, Mother Earth whispers her eternal quest.

Once, amidst a storm’s fierce embrace,
I sought the raw intensity, the tempest’s face.
The ocean roared with waves that soared high,
Five meters tall, they kissed the sky.
Winds howled with fury, unrestrained,
We leaned into the gales, by sand we were pained.

Today, the Pacific is in a pensive mood,
Reflecting quiet, introspective, subdued.
The yin and yang of our beloved coast,
Calm serenity and fierce tempest both.
In nature’s duality, the Dao’s embrace,
Our beach, a mirror of life’s intricate grace.
