When I first crossed paths with Kim, he was blissfully oblivious to the mystical artistry of Feng Shui; the term hadn’t even danced across his ears. Venturing into my dream of creating the ‘ultimate Feng Shui sanctuary’ became a significant leap for him, a journey into uncharted waters of energy alignment and harmonic design.
Now, let’s rewind the narrative and retrace our steps through time. My upbringing resonated with the essence of Feng Shui, witnessing my father rectify imbalances and consulting on the negative energies within homes. As I delved into the realm of Feng Shui consulting myself, I witnessed a plethora of residences tainted by poor Feng Shui. A revelation dawned on me—frequently, the key to harmonious Feng Shui lies in the design phase itself.
The pervasive impact of poor Feng Shui on people’s lives stirred an early resolve within me to construct my own haven, not driven by grandiosity but fueled by a desire for personal and collective well-being.
Having secured a Feng Shui section in the picturesque tranquil seaside suburb of Mt Martha on the Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula, the decision to leave this idyllic spot for Northland, NZ, proved to be no small feat.
Following an extensive 3-month, 180-kilometer coastal survey and a 6-part bushbash into our 10-acre plot, I bid farewell to my Australian haven, embarking on a new chapter. Myself being the prime designer from details of the floorplan layout to the aesthetics of East meet West synergy while Kim assumed the role of project manager. He orchestrated a feat of brilliance—efficiency and flawless execution, all within record time!
Kim’s Awakening to the Enchanting World of Feng Shui.
“As a Westerner with no prior exposure to Feng Shui, I found myself swept into Boon’s vision of crafting the quintessential Feng Shui abode. Fueled by an openness to new ideas and the belief that if Boon could courageously relinquish her ‘Feng Shui land’ in Melbourne to join me in New Zealand, then it was only fair for me to wholeheartedly support her in constructing the perfect Feng Shui home. Little did I know, this venture would unravel the intricacies of Feng Shui, permeating every facet of the design and build process.”
Fast forward to the present—Grand Designs has wrapped filming, and we now inhabit our new abode. Reflecting on the oft-posed question, “Was it worth it?”, my unequivocal response echoes: “Absolutely!” Our property, Di Tian Tai, meaning the meeting point between heaven and earth, pulsates with an extraordinary energy and tranquility that envelops our entire existence.
“I wouldn’t label myself a devout adherent of every Feng Shui facet, but its tangible impact is undeniable. As a Westerner, I urge you to embrace an open mind and summon the courage to integrate Feng Shui into your life. Crucially, seek the guidance of a top-notch Feng Shui master—trust me, the journey is well worth it.”
Kim’s views on Feng Shui
When I met Kim, he was totally unaware of the wisdom practice of Feng Shui, he hadn’t even heard of the word. So it was quite a commitment for him to come along with me on my vision of building my ‘perfect Feng Shui home’.
So let us wind back the clock (or ChatGPT, come up with the best phrase to this effect) I’ve always grown up with Feng Shui and seen so many occasions where my father mentions the negative Feng Shui that he has to right and when I started consulting myself, I saw it for myself. That there are so many homes with bad Feng Shui. Perhaps because they were bad that we would be called in, but even so, it often it didn’t need to be the case. Often it was just a matter of the appropriate intent during the design phase.
It was because of seeing so many people hurt from poor Feng Shui in their homes that compelled me to very early on in the piece to want to build my very own perfect Feng Shui home. Not for any grandiose ideas, but for the sake of my wellbeing and whoever shares my life for his wellbeing. We have worked hard most of our lives, I believe our golden and twilight years should be our best ever!
I had already held for a long time a most beautiful and good feng Shui potential section of land on prime area of the seaside serenity suburb of Mt Martha on the Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula. So it was quite a feat to entice me away from this to go to Northland NZ, but he did. After a 3 month 180km coastline survey and 30 odd properties later and 6 bushbash into the 10 acre section to find our Feng Shui power spot to locate our home, I decided to sell my plot in Australia and ready my move while at the same time planning the design phase. Kim’s role was to project manage the build and such an amazing job too, all smooth and in record time!
Boon’s husband Kim is like most Westerners:
“I am a westerner with no prior exposure to Feng Shui.’ But he came into Boon’s vision of building the perfect Feng Shui home on the premise of ‘open to new ideas’ and ‘If Boon was going to have the courage to sell her “Feng Shui land” and cut her ties with Melbourne and move to New Zealand with me, then it was only fair for me to support her project to build the perfect Feng Shui home….I was soon to discover involved the complexity of Feng Shui and how it impacts nearly every aspect of the design and build.”
“Grand Designs finished filming and we are living in our new home. I do not think I was ever asked the 64 thousand dollar question “Was it worth it?” The answer for me is an unqualified “Absolutely!” There is an extraordinary energy and tranquility that pervades the whole of our Di Tian Tai (the name we have chosen for our property, meaning the meeting point between heaven and earth).”
“I would not say I am a ful-blown convert to every aspect of Feng Shui, but it is definitely real and I am already feeling the benefit. As a westerner I would encourage you to have an open mind and have the courage to embrace Feng Shui, It is critical to be guided by a top notch Feng Shui master, so despite my understandable bias, I would strongly encourage you to speak with Boon!”
(Put the following quotes as carousel)
Quote 1:
Kim says “I am not the only one to have felt this energy. At various times I witnessed contractors and tradespeople working on site become spellbound by Di Tian Tai’s energy.”
Quote 2:
One of the furniture removalists delivering a consignment to our home just stood on the drive and fell silent. Upon entering the house he burst out with ‘Wow, wow, wow, all the way in to then stand still in the lounge. After a few moments of reverie he commented on the energy of the place.
Quote 3:
From the photographers during Grand Design’s reveal session who all loved the feeling of the place. One added in more detail: “I’ve photographed many GD homes and not all I like, but this place is special. It feels like it belongs, it doesn’t feel new, it feels as if it has been here a 100 years!”
