This School can be traced to the Tang Dynasty and began as a system for selecting burial sites, also in accordance with features of the land. Various San Yuan systems that exists for orientating waterways and mountains according to the location and direction of tombs, were also later applied to buildings.
Characteristic to this school is the ‘cycling of time’ over 180, 60, 20 year cycles, plus annually, monthly and daily influences of cosmological forces.
In the Sung Dynasty, Xuan Kong Profound Emptiness School evolved from the San Yuan School continuing its characteristic focus on timing. |
